UMC Utrecht: Operate multiple servers on multiple workstations

The UMC Universitair Medisch Centrum Utrecht is one of the largest public health institutions in the Netherlands. Over 10.000 employees are continuously building on proper care with knowledge and people as its foundations.

Project background
The Radiotherapy ward of the UMC uses radiotherapy to fight cancer. Because of the departments' expansion the network engineers were looking for a way to manage multiple servers using a KVM-switch.

They were looking for a way to operate computers remotely as well. This enables them to give a presentation in a lecture room, without having to move PCs, or operating radiotherapy equipment from an adjoining room.

The solution
The Radiotherapy ward contacted a Black Box account manager, together they looked for the best possible solution to manage the ward's applications. That was found in the ServSwitch Matrix and several KVM-switches and -extenders, which were employed to full satisfaction. The 16 ports ServSwitch Matrix provided the network engineers with access to the servers. With this tool they can operate multiple servers on multiple workstations.

KVM-extenders made remote computer operation possible. Accessing multiple computers from a single monitor, keyboard and mouse is done by using various Black Box KVM-switches.

UMC comment:
"Black Box has never let us down. When we have a question, they give us a prompt and adequate answer."
